14 businesses fail liquor compliance checks

A total of 14 restaurants, bars and liquor stores in Mesa County were caught selling alcohol to minors during separate compliance checks conducted by law enforcement agencies.

The Grand Junction and Fruita police departments, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and state liquor enforcement conducted the checks on July 11 and 19.

Out of 111 establishments checked on July 11,  nine were caught selling alcohol to minors: Chin Chin, Clifton Liquors, El Tapatio, Fin’s Grill, Horizon Liquor, Pete’s House of Spirits, Taqueria Valparaiso, Top East Restaurant and the Winery Restaurant.

Out of 67 establishments checked on July 19, five were caught selling alcohol to minors: Cinnamon Grill, Dream Cafe, Golf Club at Redlands Mesa, JF Strothman Distillery and La Bamba Mexican Restaurant.

Because of a previous violation within the last two years, La Bamba Mexican Restaurant could face active suspension of its liquor license. The City of Grand Junction Liquor Board will make that determination.
