Accounting firm honors Western Colorado companies

A Taco Bell franchisee, printing company and engineering and surveying firm are the latest recipients of annual awards presented by the Dalby, Wendland & Co. accounting firm based in Grand Junction.

Dennis Wagner, a retired principal with Dalby, Wendland & Co., also received a bronze eagle statue as a recipient of the 2015 Spirit of Western Colorado awards.

Dalby, Wendland & Co. has presented the awards since 2004 to recognize businesses and individuals that create lasting legacies in Western Colorado and demonstrate pioneering spirit.

ColCal Companies in Grand Junction operates five Taco Bell locations in the Grand Valley and 19 locations in California. Ken Basinger, owner and chief executive officer of ColCal, started working for Taco Bell in 1977 as an assistant manager trainee in Grand Junction and went on to become a manager, director of operations and then franchise owner. In 2014, Basinger received the Glen Bell Award, the top award bestowed by the Taco Bell corporation.

Over the years, ColCal has supported the Taco Bell Tennis Tournament and local nonprofit organizations, including the Mesa County Court Appointed Special Advocates.

Gran and Glenda Farnum founded Gran Farnum Printing in 1979 in Glenwood Springs. Today, the company is known for its quality work as well as its support of schools and the community.

Del-Mont Consultants was founded in Montrose in 1978 and now offers civil engineering, surveying and project management services in 11 states. The company supports community activities and its employees serve on various boards.

Wagner retired from Dalby, Wendland & Co. in 2013 after a 35-year career with the firm. He joined the firm in 1978, became a principal in 1981 and served on the board of directors for 25 years. He served as president between 1995 and 2005.
