Barnes & Noble contest honors teachers
Nominations will be accepted through March 1 for an annual program conducted by Barnes & Noble Booksellers to honor teachers.
Middle and high school students can nominate teachers for the My Favorite Teacher Contest by submitting essays, poems or thank-you letters about teachers who’ve influenced their lives and why they admire and appreciate those teachers. In Grand Junction, nominations will be collected at the Barnes & Noble location at 2451 Patterson Road. Only middle and high school students and active teachers employed in elementary, middle or high schools in the United States may participate.
Nominations will be judged on the compelling nature of a teacher’s qualities as well as the sincerity and quality of the writing.
The winning local teacher and student who wrote the nomination will be honored at an event at the Grand Junction store. The winning teacher also will be entered into regional and national competitions. Regional winners will receive a Nook electronic reader and $500 Barnes & Noble gift card. The national winner and his or her school each will receive $5,000.
“The Barnes & Noble My Favorite Teacher Contest is just one more way for Barnes & Noble and the community to recognize how important teachers can be in their students’ lives,” said Laura Mettauer, community relations manager for the Barnes & Noble store in Grand Junction.
“A gesture as simple and pure as a child writing kind words about their teacher and reading it aloud to them at a My Favorite Teacher celebration often prompts tears among many involved.”
