Boettcher Foundation awards $120,000 grant for hospital expansion

The Boettcher Foundation has awarded a $120,000 grant for an expanded psychiatric hospital under construction in Grand Junction.

The $34 million project at West Springs Hospital will add up to 64 beds, doubling the number of patients that can be treated at the inpatient facility. The expanded hospital also will include a dedicated child and adolescent wing, indoor and outdoor recreation spaces and enhanced visiting areas. The project is scheduled for completion in January 2019.

Mind Springs Health — an organization that provides counseling and therapy services across a 10-county region in Western Colorado — operates West Springs Hospital.

“Mind Springs Health and West Springs Hospital’s work to fill the need for mental health services in Western Colorado is incredibly important, and we are honored to contribute to this critical project,” said Katie Kramer, president and chief executive officer of the Boettcher Foundation.

The Boettcher Foundation grant adds to the funding contributed to the project, including $2.5 million from St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction as well as $2 million from the Colorado Health Access Fund of the Denver Foundation. Other major contributors have included Alpine Bank, Caring for Colorado Foundation, Rocky Mountain Health Plans and Claude and Irene Conner.
