Business owner seeks election to commission
A long-time business owner has announced his candidacy for the Mesa County Board of Commissioners.
Wes D’Aponti seeks the Republican nomination in District 1 for the 2012 election.
D’Aponti had scheduled a news conference on the steps of the Mesa County Courthouse in Grand Junction for Sept. 15 to announce his campaign.
D’Aponti and his wife, Marilyn, have operated Environmental Audit & Assessment, a Grand Junction-based environmental consulting firm, for 17 years. The couple lives near Loma, where they also grow hay and raise a small herd of Angus cattle.
D’Aponti serves on the Mesa County Executive Fair Board and is a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Grand Junction.
A Colorado native, D’Aponti grew up on a ranch near Morrison. He has lived on the Western Slope since 1973.
D’Aponti stated in a news release announcing his candidacy that he intends to focus on business development and agriculture as part of his campaign.
He stated he’ll promote small business development and efforts to promote business relocation and expansion.
D’Aponti also said agriculture must remain a priority in Mesa County and he’ll uphold a right-to-farm county resolution as well as promote agricultural stewardship.
D’Aponti supports the development of natural gas, coal and other resources, but said he wants to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
