Caregiver earns national recognition

Michelle Moran, a caregiver with FirstLight HomeCare in Grand Junction, has been honored as the FirstLight HomeCare 2015 National Caregiver of the Year.

Moran was selected from among the thousands of caregivers who work at 138 FirstLight HomeCare locations nationwide.

“Michelle’s ability to help both her clients feel safe and her fellow caregivers learn and grow shows that caring for others is at the heart of everything she does,” said Judy Devincentis, owner of FirstLight HomeCare in Grand Junction.

Moran is licensed as a certified nursing assistant and also holds dementia certification. She distributes what she calls “gotcha cards” that recognize fellow employees for doing something exceptional.

Moran further demonstrated her skills in accompanying a patient with suicidal dementia on a train trip from Colorado to New York. Moran provided physical and mental care while developing a relationship with her patient.

Jeff Bevis, chief executive officer of FirstLight HomeCare, said he was impressed with Moran. “We had so many extraordinary caregivers to select from, but Michelle’s nomination really reflected all the qualities that make our FirstLight HomeCare caregivers the very best.”
