City public works and utilities director hired

Greg Lanning has joined the City of Grand Junction as public works and utilities director.

Lanning, a licensed professional engineer, brings to his new duties experience as deputy state engineer of Wyoming as well as director of public works in Pocatello, Idaho, and Green River, Wyo. He also served as city administrator, public works director and city engineer for Powell, Wyo.

Lanning holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering as well as a master’s of business administration degree.

Lanning is scheduled to begin working in Grand Junction by March 31.

Lanning succeeds Greg Trainor, who plans to retire after working for the City of Grand Junction for 28 years as utility manager, utilities director and public works and utilities director.

A going away open house for Trainor is set for 3 to 5 p.m. March 20 at Two Rivers Convention Center, 159 Main St.
