Construction firm earns city recognition

Blue Star Industries is the first company to be recognized in a new program conducted by the City of Grand Junction highlighting local development.

Blue Star Industries was recognized as the city’s featured development project.

“The recognition — which in this case is based on innovation in development, impact on the Grand Junction economy and provision of a varied range of product offerings — is the first of its kind to be presented by the city,” said Tim Moore, deputy city manager.

“ With city council’s recent adoption of the economic development plan, we realized that highlighting some of the great work taking place in our local development community made good sense,” Moore added.

Blue Star Industries, a construction and development company founded by John Davis in the early 1980s, specializes in subdivisions with homes in a wide range of prices.

In 2013, Blue Star Industries constructed more than 110 new houses. The company has about 50 houses and 21 townhomes that have been recently completed or are under construction.

Kim Kerk, planning and development manager with Blue Star Industries, said staff with the city community development division has helped the company work through issues and solve problems. “They have made great strides to streamline the process, which has been a benefit not just to us, but to the entire building industry.”
