Delta meeting planned to discuss meat processing

The Colorado Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety Inspection Service have scheduled a town hall meeting in Delta to discuss meat processing and inspections.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Delta-Montrose Technical College, 1765 U.S. Highway 50.

“The buying local movement is a great opportunity for our producers. And while our farmers and ranchers produce an abundant food supply, there have been issues with the ability to get meat processed locally,” said John Salazar, state commissioner of agriculture. “Our hope is to find out more about the needs of our producers and meat processors and how we can safely speed up the process.”
