Family farm wins conservation award

Harry Talbott and Talbott Family Farms in Palisade are among the latest winners of annual awards presented by the Palmer Land Trust to recognize efforts to conserve land and water in Colorado.

Talbott and Talbott Family Farms received the Friends of Open Space Award. Talbott joined with other Palisade farmers to found the Mesa Land Trust and preserve land for agricultural production, open space and wildlife habitat.

Talbott Farms subsequently joined in the Fruitlands Forever Initiative to conserve enough land to support the fruit industry in the area.

Founded in 1977 and based in Colorado Springs, the Palmer Land Trust has helped individuals and communities conserve a total of more than 75,000 acres of farms and ranches, open spaces and wildlife habitats.
