Grand Junction firm among award finalists
A Grand Junction-based technical management and professional services company is among 30 firms in the running for a national award recognizing their support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
J.G. Management Systems is among the finalists for the 2014 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The award is the highest recognition to employers for their support of National Guard and Reserve employees.
The top 30 employers were selected from a pool of 2,864 nominations submitted by National Guard and Reserve service members.
Up to 15 Freedom Award recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony scheduled for September at the Pentagon.
“These 30 employers have gone above and beyond to provide our military men and women as well as their families the absolute best support possible,” said Ronald G. Young, executive director of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an office of the Department of Defense.
An Air Force reservist who nominated J.G. Management Systems for the award, said the company purchases airplane tickets for family members during employee deployments, offers financial support to attend training and education events and hosts luncheons and dinners that honor military employees.
J.G. Management Systems also provides financial support to non-employees, donating directly to an injured service member and placing more than 1,600 American flags on grave sites.
The company is dedicated to hiring veterans and service members with more than a third of its work force comprised of current and former members of the military.
