State Sen. Steve King, a Republican from Grand Junction, is among the winners of annual awards presented by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

King and State Reps. Rhonda Fields, Bob Gardner, Libby Szabo and Dave Young were named 2013 legislative champions.

“MADD congratulates these lawmakers for their commitment to improve Colorado’s drunk driving law, author legislation protecting the rights of victims of drunk driving crashes and holding DUI offenders accountable for their actions,” said Fran Lanzer, state executive director of MADD.

King and Young authored legislation expanding the use of ignition interlocks for refusals and repeat offenders as well as lowering the driving under the influence level for persistent drunk drivers from a blood alcohol content of  0.17 to 0.15.
