Grand Valley bike parks among finalists for $250,000 grant

A Western Colorado mountain bike organization is among the finalists for a $250,000 grant to help fund the construction of three bike parks.

Online voting to determine the winner in the Pepsi Refresh America campaign will continue through Aug. 31 at the Web site located at www.refresheverything.com/bikeparks. It’s also possible to vote by cell phone by sending the text message 101700 to 73774. Participants may vote once a day.

The Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA) is working with the cities of Fruita, Grand Junction and Palisade as well as the Bureau of Land Management to build three developmental skills bike parks in the Grand Valley. The parks will offer a place for mountain bike riders of all ages to improve their skills. The parks are expected to serve local riders as well as tourists.

COPMOBA has developed more than 1,500 miles of mountain biking trails in Western Colorado and Eastern Utah, including the Kokopelli’s, Tabeguache and Paradox trail systems. For more information, log on to www.copmoba.org.
