Grand Valley firms rank among best for which to work

Edward Jones, HopeWest and JG Management Systems rank among the best companies to work for in Colorado in the latest results of annual recognition program based on employee surveys.

Edward Jones, a national financial services firm that operates offices in the Grand Valley, ranked first among large companies in the 2013 Best Companies to Work for in Colorado program.

HopeWest, a Grand Junction-based organization that offers a range of services to people facing serious illnesses, ranked second among large companies with 250 or more employees.

JG Management Systems, a technical management and consulting firm headquartered in Grand Junction, ranked second among small companies with 25 to 99 employees.

The Best Companies to Work for in Colorado program is a joint effort of the Colorado State Council of the Society for Human Resource Management; Colorado Biz magazine; and, an online employment advertising service.

To participate in the program, companies and organizations pay to undergo anonymous employee surveys conducted by Modern Think, a research and consulting firm. Employees are questioned about such issues as benefits, leadership, management and strategy.

While it’s headquartered in St. Louis, Edward Jones operates branch offices across Colorado, including the Grand Valley. Edward Jones has ranked first or second among large companies since the program began.

Among other perks, Edward Jones offers profit sharing to full-time associates as well as professional development.

Over the past three years, HopeWest has moved from sixth to fourth to second on the list. The organization offers a free employee assistance program as well as annual gifts to those who work more than 20 hours a week.

“This award is a true reflection of our dedicated team,” said Christy Whitney, president and chief executive officer of the organization.

“Our employees’ service and compassion is what makes our organization such a great place to work. We are all very proud to be honored along with other Colorado businesses.”

JG Management Systems climbed from fifth to second on the list.

The firm offers flexible scheduling, including the ability to work from home or make up hours on weekends. Employees also are welcome to bring children or pets to the office when the need arises.
