An executive who has worked in the health care and insurance industries has been hired as president and chief executive office of Pinnacol Assurance, which provides workers’ compensation insurance to about 55,000 Colorado businesses.
Philip Kalin was selected as a finalist for the position in October and is scheduled to start working Nov. 27.
“Phil Kalin will be an extraordinary leader. His experience in running complex organizations, his keen vision and insight into the forces that are changing our marketplace and his long service in Colorado make him the perfect fit for this job,” said Blair Richardson, chairman of the Pinnacol Assurance board of directors.
Kalin served as president and CEO of the Center for Improving Value in Health Care, a nonprofit collaborative formed to improve health care quality and contain costs. He’s also served as president and CEO of Rose Medical Center in Denver and held senior executive positions at the Henry Ford Healthcare system in Detroit and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland. Kalin was cofounder and CEO of CustomMed Solutions, a health care technology company focused on improving work flow among insurance providers.
“My commitment is to stay focused on Pinnacol’s long-standing tradition of providing outstanding customer service, to helping our policyholders create and maintain safe workplaces and to providing compassionate care to Colorado’s injured workers,” Kalin said.
