High school students qualify for state business competition

Five high school students from the Grand Valley have qualified for a state business competition.

The students, all enrolled in the marketing program at Western Colorado Community College in Grand Junction, qualified for state by virtue of their performance in the District 10 Regional DECA conference in Grand Junction.

The five are: Jamie Amos, first in apparel and accessories; Audrey Bolton, first in principles of hospitality and tourism; Emma Foraker, first in marketing management; Ian Gunter, second in principles of marketing; and Robert Valentine, second in sports and entertainment marketing.

Amos, Bolton and Valentine attend Grand Junction High School. Foraker attends Palisade High School and Gunter attends Fruita Monument High School.

The state career development conference is set for Feb. 26 to March 2 in Colorado Springs.

DECA, formerly known as Distributive Education Clubs of America, is an international association of students and teachers of marketing, management and entrepreneurship in business, finance, hospitality and marketing sales and service.
