Hispanic Heritage Month events planned
The Western Colorado Latino Chamber of Commerce has joined with the Mesa County Libraries and other organizations in scheduling a series of events celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
A kickoff event is set for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at the central library branch at 530 Grand Ave. in Grand Junction. The event will feature food, music and an appearance by Colorado Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia.
Other events planned for the central branch include presentations on Latino history in the Grand Valley and immigration, a movie screening, Spanish language puppet shows and a voter registration drive. Still other events set for other locations in the Grand Valley include a presentation titled “El Vaquero, America’s First Cowboy,” a naturalization ceremony and benefit golf tournament.
