HomewardBound hires new executive director

Douglas Karl has joined HomewardBound as the new executive director of the Grand Junction organization that operates a homeless shelter and other transitional living programs.

Karl is scheduled to assume his new position starting Feb. 18. A.J. Johnson has served as interim director of HomewardBound during the search for a permanent director.

HomewardBound operates a community homeless shelter that last year served nearly 1,200 people, including 76 families and 115 children. The shelter provided more than 36,000 bed nights of shelter and served more than 100,000 meals.

HomewardBound also operates case-managed transitional living programs for military veterans and families that last year served 62 people. In addition, the organization provided 688 days of medical shelter last year for those who were seriously ill or recovering from surgery.
