Lodging tax collections decline
A measure of hotel and motel stays in Grand Junction has decreased for a third straight month.
The Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau reported that $66,884 in lodging taxes were collected in January. That’s $685 or 1 percent less than was collected during the same month last year. January collections reflect hotel and motel stays during December.
Lodging tax collections also dropped on a year-over-year basis in December and November. For all of 2016, however, the more than $1.4 million in collections topped the year-end total for 2015 by 3.4 percent.
For January 2017, 25,436 unique visits to the website at www.visitgrandjunction.com were reported. That’s a decline of 8.2 percent over the same month in 2016. Requests for visitor guides declined 20 percent to 544.
A total of 221 visits to the Grand Junction Visitor Center were counted during January 2017, down 24.3 percent from the same month last year.
