Losers winners in weight loss program
A program offering cash incentives to participants who pursue healthier lifestyles is now available to Western Colorado residents with the installation of a Weigh and Win Kiosk at American Furniture Warehouse in Grand Junction.
Sponsored by the Kaiser Permanente health plans organization, the Weigh and Win program was launched in Denver. To date, more than 22,000 Colorado residents have enrolled in the program and lost a collective 51,000 pounds.
“We know that being overweight or obese has serious health consequences. It not only increases the risk for chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease, but there’s also a tremendous cost to our communities,” said Dr. Jandel Allen-Davis, vice president of government and external relations for Kaiser Permanente.
American Furniture Warehouse has provided funding for kiosks in seven of its 12 Colorado stores to promote healthier lifestyles for its employees and residents. The Grand Junction store is located at 2570 American Way and open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Anyone over 18 can join in the program by enrolling at www.weighandwin.com, then visiting a kiosk, where they will have their weight recorded and photo taken. Participants receive daily e-mails and text messages offering information about healthy eating and active living. Participants also have access to online resources as well as the ability to talk with a certified personal trainer.
Progress is tracked through quarterly weigh ins at kiosks. Cash cards are awarded according to the percentage of weight loss. Participants who maintain a healthy weight are eligible to win prizes and coupons.
