Massage therapist raising money to watch son compete

A massage therapist in Grand Junction is selling punch cards for discounted massages to raise money to watch her son compete in world mountain running championship.

Macrina Cardenas Contreras, owner of Healing First Therapeutic Massage, is selling the cards to attend the World Mountain Running Championship set for Sept. 16 in Canillo, Andorra.

Her 17-year-old son, David Contreras, is among eight runners from the United States selected to compete in the event in the junior division. He’ll represent Team USA, a part of the USA Track and Field organization that selects runners for world championships and the Olympic games.

While most of her son’s expenses will be covered by Team USA, Macrina Contreras is raising money to attend the race. She also plans to volunteer at the race site in Andorra, a small country located in the Pyrenees Mountains between France and Spain.

Healing First Therapeutic Massage operates in the Business Incubator Center at 2591 Legacy Way. For more information, call 773-0069 or send an email to
