Mesa County worker’s comp policyholders to receive $1.8 million in Pinnacol dividend

More than 1,900 Mesa County businesses will receive a total of $1.8 million, a portion of general dividends returned by Pinnacol Assurance to workers’ compensation insurance policyholders.

Pinnacol Assurance plans to distribute a total of $41 million to 50,000 qualifying businesses in Colorado, about 85 percent of its policyholders. The dividend is based on policyholder performance between June 2009 and June 2010. Individual checks are based on the size of a policyholder’s annual premium compared with claims costs.

Since 2005, Pinnacol has returned a total of more than $435 million in general dividends to Colorado More than $4 million of the latest dividends will go to Western Slope businesses, bringing total dividends to business in the region over the past seven years to $42 million.

“This dividend offers some relief to businesses that continue to feel the pain of the slow economic recovery. We hope it will help create more jobs and provide a boost to the state’s business climate,” said Ken Ross, president and chief executive officer of Pinnacol Assurance. “We applaud our policyholders for their continued commitment to effective claims management and safety practices.”
