Open house set for apprenticeship program

An open house is scheduled for Feb. 16 to offer information about a youth apprenticeship program.

The event is set for 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mesa County Workforce Center, 512 29 1/2 Road in Grand Junction.

The event is open to high school students, their parents and employers interested in CareerWise Colorado. The program coordinates apprenticeships among businesses, high school students and educators. Students completing the program earn wages while gaining real-world skills, industry credentials and college credit that provide them with options to enter the workplace or continue their education. Businesses benefit from the program as they take a more hands-on approach to building their work forces.

“We are very excited to see how the students and businesses interact. This is all about building a future workforce for Mesa County,” said Curtis Engelhard, director of the Mesa County Workforce Center.
