Pet food drive to benefit animal shelters

A holiday pet food drive is scheduled to continue through Dec. 20 at the Kokopelli Animal Hospital in Fruita.

Donations of dog food, cat food, kitty litter and pet treats will be delivered to local animal shelters on Dec. 21, including CLAWS, Grand River Humane Society, Loma Cat House, Mesa County Animal Services and Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

“These shelters greatly benefit the homeless cats and dogs of Mesa County, and they need our help,” said Baer Bechtel, owner of the Kokopelli Animal Hospital. “Last year we collected 3,500 pounds of donations, and this year our goal is to deliver 2 tons to the shelters.”

Kokopelli Animal Shelter is located at 456 Kokopelli Blvd, Unit E,  in the Kokopelli retail center. The full-service small animal hospital has earned American Animal Hospital Association accreditation and has served Western Colorado since 2005.
