Photographer latest Art for Health winner

The work of Grand Valley photographer Mark Reese is on display at the Family Health West hospital in Fruita as the latest winner of the Art for Health competition.

“We are thrilled to have Mark’s work in our hospital,” said Angelina Salazar, director of community relations for Family Health West. “Our patients, staff, families and friends all have the opportunity to not only view what our local artists are doing, but to experience an environment that promotes healing.”

Reese specializes in landscape and wildlife photography, but also enjoys sports and abstract photography and documenting people involved in routine activities.

Reese has been taking photographs since he was in third grade, but worked in the telecommunications industry as an independent contractor who built cellular telephone towers. His life changed in 2008, though, when a truck he was driving rolled over and he sustained several injuries, including a closed head injury.

Family Health West displays the work of two artists a year — one each in six-month increments — in its Art for Health program.

Family Health West operates a hospital, outpatient care centers and assisted and skilled-care living facilities. For more information, call 858-2104 or visit the Web site located at www.familyhealthwest.org.
