Physician assistant joins Family Health West

Walt Speirs has joined Family Health West in Fruita as a physician assistant working on the emergency department staff.

“We are pleased to have Walt join our team,” said Karen Donnahie, director of emergency services, emergency preparedness and quality at Family Health West. “We appreciate his enthusiasm and dedication to our patients.”

Speirs brings to his new duties extensive training and experience. He holds a master of physician assistant studies degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City and a bachelor’s degree in physiology and biochemistry from Dalhousie University in Canada. He’s worked as a respiratory therapist, emergency medical technician and perfusionist, operating a heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery.

“I really enjoy working at a high-quality, small hospital with a friendly, caring and knowledgeable staff,” he said.
