Powderhorn adds tubing, expands instructional program

Powderhorn Mountain Resort has opened a tubing hill and expanded a popular introductory instructional program.

The new tubing area is located west of the EZ Rider lift. Tickets to use the lift serving the area are available by the hour and include tube rentals.

“We are dedicated to providing family friendly activities, and tubing is perfect for families to enjoy together,” said Tricia Tittle, sales and communications manager at Powderhorn.

As part of opening the tubing hill, Powderhorn is conducting a contest to name the area. Entries may be submitted on the Facebook page at www.facebook.com/skipowderhorn through noon Jan. 13. The name that receives the most “likes” will be used as long as it goes along with the family friendly atmosphere at the resort. The person who submits the winning entry will receive a party for five for two hours. Other prizes also will be awarded.

In addition to opening a tubing hill, Powderhorn has added dates to an introductory instructional program for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend Jan. 14 to 16.

The program is open to people who’ve never before gone skiing or snowboarding. For $299, participants receive lessons, lift tickets and rentals for three sessions in addition to a season pass.

As an added incentive, Powderhorn is partnering with the Steamboat Ski Resort. Participants will receive a three-lesson pass and rentals at 50 percent off as well as $49 lift tickets at Steamboat for the remainder of the season.

“We are very interested in creating lifetime skiers and riders, and this learn to program is a great way to get people into the sport,” said Kate Bruchak, manager of the ski and ride center at Powderhorn. “After three days of lessons, most people are able to navigate easy blue runs, which allows them to really get the full mountain experience.”
