Publishing firm plans writing workshops

A Grand Junction marketing and publishing company has scheduled two workshops to offer information to people considering writing books.

Patti Hoff, director of operations at Brass Frog Bookworks and herself an author and lecturer, will lead workshops set for 2 p.m. Jan. 14 and 21 at Western Colorado Community College, 2508 Blichmann Ave. in Grand Junction.

Admission to the workshops is $35 each. To register or obtain additional information, call (909) 239-0344 or visit the Web site at

The Jan. 14 workshop will help participants determine whether or not they have what it takes to become a writer. The workshop will cover such topics as the writing and publishing process, how to start writing projects, the business of writing and marketing and agents.

The Jan. 21 workshop will explore the art of the story, including structure, plot, character development, beginnings, endings and editing. Participants also will learn how to avoid common mistakes by new authors.

Both workshops will include handouts, refreshments and time for questions and answers.
