Red Baron Ball to raise funds for women’s center
Family Health West has scheduled the 25th edition of an annual benefit event that this year will raise money for a women’s health care center in Fruita.
The Red Baron Ball is set for 5:30 p.m. April 26 at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 743 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction. The event will include dinner, silent and live auctions and dancing.
The theme of the ball will be “A New Destination in Health Care,” and the decor will reflect the travel experience.
Lorraine Archuleta, event coordinator for Family Health West, said sponsors make the Red Baron Ball possible. “We appreciate our community’s support tremendously,” Archuleta said. “This year’s event has a lot of surprises in store.”
Proceeds from the ball will support the Family Health West women’s health care center.
“In addition to the facility itself, funding will go toward the purchase of a tomosynthesis mammography unit,” said Angelina Salazar, development director for Family Health West.
“Tomosynthesis is most commonly used in 3-D mammography because the tomography process can create a three dimensional view that doctors can examine in a virtual environment, enabling suspected tumors and masses in the breast to be detected with a higher degree of accuracy,” Salazar said.
Family Health West staged the first Red Baron Ball in a West Star Aviation hanger 24 years ago. The event has become the biggest fund-raiser for the organization.
