Tasteful event changed to expand fare offering

Nearly 40 vendors are expected to participate in a tasteful event pairing fine foods and drink.

The lineup at Edesia will include not only restaurants, caterers, distillers and wineries, but also local growers, breweries and even a gourmet food truck.

“We’re trying to keep things fresh and in line with what interests the public,” said Anne Tally, who’s coordinating vendors for Edesia at the Wine Country Inn in Palisade.

Edesia is set for March 30 at the boutique hotel located at 777 Grande River Drive. The event will include a new VIP luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well as the main event, set for 1 to 5 p.m.

Named for the Roman goddess of food and drink, Edesia pairs gourmet foods with fine wines and spirits. The event also features culinary demonstrations and live music.

Tickets to the VIP luncheon sell for $125 and include admission to the main event. Tickets to the main event sell for $75. Proceeds from Edesia benefit Marillac Clinic, which provides health care services to uninsured Mesa County residents with low and moderate incomes. Last year, the event raised $20,000.

Tally said the format at Edesia will be expanded this year to include local growers, a beer garden and gourmet food truck.

The local growers will include Blaine’s Tomatoes & Farm, the Lavender Lady, the Produce Peddler, Sprigs & Sprouts and Z’s Orchard.

“The local growers see this is a great opportunity to let people know that they have early spring products, thanks to greenhouse cultivation,” Tally said.

A beer garden will feature craft beers from local brewers and gourmet casual food from the Cravings food truck operated by Chef Jonathan Rashleigh.

Remy Martin, the international champagne and cognac giant, will remain the title sponsor.

Other vendors will include the Artisan Collection by Farmer Brothers, A Taste of Heaven Catering, Berna B’s Catering, Breckenridge Bourbon and Whiskey, Canyon Wind Cellars, Carlson Vineyards, Caroline’s Restaurant, Citrola’s Grill & Bar, Colterris, DeBeque Canyon Winery, Decadence Cheesecake, Garfield Estate Winery, Gelato Junction, Grande River Vineyards, Gubbini Winery, Kannah Creek Brewery, Mesa Park Vineyards, Montonya Distillers, Mount Gay Run, Plum Creek Winery, Red Rose Café, Palisade Brewery, Pattie’s Tiny Cakes, Piper Sonoma Winery, Rockslide, Talon Wine, Tapestry Lounge, Varaison Winery and Whitewater Hill Winery.

Nitza Mendoza, an award-winning chef from Florida, will demonstrate her skills as the featured celebrity chef at Edesia. Other participating chefs will include Jean Claude Cavalera, Graham Mitchell and Robert Murphy from the Escoffier Culinary School in Boulder; Jesper Jonsson from Randolph’s at the Warwick Hotel in Denver; Griff Chiono from Bin 707 and Theo Otte from 626 on Rood in Grand Junction, and Marcelo Marino from the Wine Country Inn.
