Tasteful event to showcase some fair vintages
A tasting of wines that won awards at a commercial winemakers competition held as part of the Mesa County Fair is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 at the KAFM Radio Room, located at 1310 Ute Ave. in Grand Junction.
The Mesa County Fair Board and KAFM radio station will present the event, which will include the wine tasting as well as other refreshments and music.
Steve Menke, an associate professor of enology at Colorado State University, will offer a short presentation on how wines are judged in addition to more general information about Mesa County wineries and wines.
Mesa County Commissioner Steve Aquafresca said the competition showcases a county with more wineries than any other in Colorado and the home to 85 percent of the wine grape crop in the state. “This contest really highlights the excellent grapes we grow here, which produce such high-quality wines and are a boon to our local agricultural economy.”
