Tax collections reflect increase in lodging stays

A monthly measure of hotel and motel stays in Grand Junction continues to track ahead of last year.

According to a Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau report for July, lodging tax collections totaled 134,864. That’s  a 2.8 percent increase over tax collections reported in July 2011. July reports reflect hotel and motel stays in June.

For reports covering January through July 2012, lodging tax collections totaled $637,896. That’s a 6.1 percent gain over what was reported for the same span in 2011. The year-to-date numbers reflect hotel and motel stays between December and June.

A total of 30,027 unique visits to the VCB Web site was reported for July, up 10.2 percent over the same month last year. Total Web site visits for January through July reports climbed to 160,163, up 5.1 percent over the same span last year.

Meanwhile, 2,353 visits to the Grand Junction Visitor Center were reported in July, down 15 percent from the same month last year.
