Tax report reflects increase in lodging stays

A measure of hotel and motel stays in Grand Junction continues to reflect increased business compared to last year.

According to the Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau report for September, $141,389 in lodging taxes were collected. That’s an 8.4 percent increased over collections reported for the same month last year.

For reports for January through September, lodging tax collections totaled $914,143. That’s a 7.4 percent gain over the same period last year.

Since lodging tax reports lag a month behind collections, the September report reflects hotel and motel stays in August. The latest year-to-date totals reflect business between December and August.

At the current pace of collections, lodging taxes will total more than $1.2 million for 2012. The VCB reported $1.1 million in lodging tax collections in 2011.
