Wine board receives specialty crops grant

The Colorado Wine Industry Development Board is among 10 recipients of the latest federal grants awarded to promote the production of specialty crops in the state.

The wine board will use the grant funding to explore the use of hybrid grapes and other cold-hardy grapes in blends to make wines more appealing to consumers.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture awards the grants using funds from a U.S. Department of Agriculture block grant program designed to increase the competitiveness of specialty crops.

“This funding has provided a tremendous opportunity for Colorado’s agricultural industry to pursue a wide variety of innovative projects,” said Tom Lipetzky, director of the Colorado Department of Agriculture markets division.
