An upcoming event will help people dispose of unwanted documents while also raising money for an organization that helps people with disabilities.
Alpine Bank, Colorado Document Security and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation have scheduled a community shred event for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 10. The event is planned for two Alpine Bank locations in Grand Junction, the parking lot between White and Rood avenues downtown as well as the location at 709 Horizon Drive.
Although the event is free, participants are asked to donate $5 for each banker size box of documents to shred. The money will go to the Blood Brothers foundation, which funds vehicle modifications for people with physical disabilities.
Participants may bring old bank statements, tax documents, medical records and other confidential documents for secure destruction. There’s a four-box limit per household.
Colorado Document Security will shred the documents onsite and recycle the shredded paper.
“We’re pleased to offer this service to Mesa County residents,” said Clay Tufly, regional president of Alpine Bank. “Far too frequently, people hold onto old and sensitive documents longer than they need to or simply throw them in the trash. As identity theft continues to rise each year, it’s imperative to make document security and information protection a higher priority.”
