Western Colorado Community College is among the recipients of more than $700,000 in grants awarded by the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District.
The district oversees the distribution of federal mineral lease revenues to local public entities that provide community services.
WCCC received a $289,125 grant for a building for its electric line worker training program.
The City of Fruita received a $185,000 grant for Aspen Avenue alley improvements.
Five mini grants worth a total of $235,340 also were awarded:
$50,000 to the City of Grand Junction for a salt shed.
$50,000 to the Palisade Rural Fire Protection District for cardiac monitors.
$50,000 to the Town of Collbran for downtown improvements.
$48,800 to the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority for terminal safety and security improvements.
$36,540 to the Palisade Police Department for a patrol vehicle.
