United Way eligibility reviews due Oct. 31

Organizations applying for funds from United Way of Mesa County have until Oct. 31 to complete eligibility reviews.

To be considered for funding, organizations must have:

Tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of Title 26 of the United States Code and have been incorporated as a nonprofit for at least two years as of Oct. 1.

Written bylaws that describe their structure, mission and operations.

A local board of directors or advisory board that governs operations, meets at least four times a year and keeps minutes of meetings.

A nondiscrimination policy that complies with state and federal laws and applies to staff, volunteers and board members.

An annual audit or financial review prepared by an independent Certified Public Accountant.

At least one staff person that conducts or administers activities.

Eligible organizations will have access to funding applications beginning Nov. 4. A diverse group of local volunteers will review applications and financial information, visit program sites and make funding recommendations to the United Way of Mesa County board of directors for approval.

United Way of Mesa County supports programs that promote health, education and self-reliance. Funds raised in the county stay in the county.
