Mark your calendars for June 4, when Mesa County Partners will host the 36th annual Superstars competition.
Superstars is scheduled set to start at 9 a.m. at the Colorado Mesa University plaza. More than 20 teams will vie in a friendly competition in such events as cornhole, a military obstacle course, sand volleyball and a tug-of-war. Teams will earn points based on where they finish in each event. Additional points will be awarded for raising money to benefit Partners.
The entry fee for each team is $1,000. Teams also will sell tickets to enjoy the sounds of the Doug Simons Band that afternoon starting at 3:30. Barbecued foods will be served and a cash beer garden will be open. Partners will give away a door prize of a $1,000 voucher with The Travel Connection.
The Superstars competition constitutes on of the biggest events of the year to help Partners raise funds for an annual operating budget of $2.4 million. All of the proceeds from Superstars goes to help the youth of Mesa County.
Partners uses the funds to provide programs for at-risk youth in our community. This includes providing healthy activities like biking, camping, cooking classes and hiking for kids in our mentoring program. Through our restitution program, we provide substance abuse education classes for youth who’ve received minor-in-possession tickets. The Western Colorado Conservation Corps uses proceeds to provide first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation training, buy safety gear and provide healthy meals for kids in the field.
Since government funding remains uncertain, a non-profit organization like Partners relies heavily on community support through fund-raisers. Our fund-raising goal for Superstars is $50,000.
Join us June 4 for friendly competition, food and fun.
