Benefit fest celebrates outdoor sports

An annual event celebrating outdoor sports with movies, an equipment sale and gear swap is scheduled for April 13 and 14 in Grand Junction.

The Manufacturers of Outdoor Gear (MOG) Outdoor Fest is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. April 13 in Room 155 of the Maverick Center at Colorado Mesa University with a preview of the MountainFilm on Tour, a compilation of short films from the MountainFilm Fest. Admission is $10, $8 for CMU students who show their university IDs. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the CMU Outdoor Program.

The MOG sale is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 in the parking lot at 400 Colorado Ave. in downtown Grand Junction. The sale will offer discounts on bicycles, camping equipment, footwear, outerwear, skis and a wide variety of other gear. Admission is $5. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free. Proceeds from ticket sales go to the Colorado Plateau Mountain Bike Trail Association (COPMOBA) and Mesa Land Trust Three Sisters Project.

A bicycle and gear swap also is scheduled in conjunction with the sale. Participants can sell their own gear for $15 donations to COPMOBA.

Stray Grass will perform in a live bluegrass concert at the sale site from 2 to 4 p.m.

The MOG Outdoor Fest also will feature a beer garden operated by the Rockslide Brew Pub as well as food, door prizes and activities for children.

Area retailers established the MOG Outdoor Fest in 2003 to benefit nonprofit outdoor organizations. For more information about the upcoming event, visit the Web site located at www.mogoutdoorfest.com.
