Bank sports new name following acquisition

A bank in operation in Western Colorado for more than a century officially has been renamed following its acquisition.

All 10 First National Bank of the Rockies locations in the region have been renamed Bank of the San Juans. Staffing and services will remain unchanged, however, as will local decision making. “One of our core values is giving back to our communities, and that includes local decision making,” said Art Chase, founder and president of Bank of the San Juans. “Decisions will continue to be made by local managers based on the needs of the individual communities, not a corporate mandate.”

Glacier Bancorp, a regional bank holding company based in Montana, acquired First National Bank of the Rockies earlier this year. FNBR subsequently joined Bank of the San Juans, a division of Glacier Bancorp with a total of three locations in Durango and Pagosa Springs.

With the acquisition, Bank of the San Juans has total assets of $550 million.

Chase said Bank of the San Juans will offer higher lending limits, expanded home mortgage lending and more mobile and online banking options. But personal service will remain a priority, he said.

“We are a true community bank with small town Colorado roots and values that are similar to First National Bank of the Rockies,” Chase said.

“You’re going to get some of the benefits of dealing with a larger bank when you are a Bank of the San Juans customer. But you’re still going to get the true benefit of a bank that genuinely values customer service above all else.”

FNBR originally was chartered in 1904 as the First National Bank of Meeker. What is now Bank of the San Juans operates four locations in Grand Junction as well as branches in Craig, Hayden, Meeker, Oak Creek, Rangely and Steamboat Springs.
