Colorado Mesa University is among the latest winners of national awards for its efforts to assist international students attending CMU.
CMU and its International Student Admissions and Programs Office received the “E” Award for Exports from Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
“Both the ‘E’ and ‘E Star” Awards are one of the most prestigious exporting awards given out each year, and Colorado Mesa University should be very honored to receive this presidential-level achievement,” said Paul Bergman, director of the U.S. Commercial Service office in Denver. The office assists a total of more than 1,600 organizations and businesses in Colorado and Wyoming do business overseas.
“This type of recognition highlights just how hard organizations and businesses throughout the state of Colorado work to be successful in our globalized economy, especially when they work alongside the U.S. Commercial Service,” Bergman said.
Now in its 56th year, the awards program honors exporting and international marketing efforts. A total of 34 organizations and companies received the “E” Award for exports and export service. A total of nine more organizations and companies received “E Star” Awards for exports and export service bestowed to “E Award” recipients that have demonstrated continued success.
The U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service office network of the Department of Commerce International Trade Administration nominates organizations and companies for the awards. A total of 43 organizations and companies in 18 states received the latest awards.
Colorado recipients also included Colorado State University in Fort Collins and Jeppesen, an aviation charting and information management company based in Englewood.
The International Student Admissions and Programs Office at CMU assists students with the admission and visa processes, offers new students an orientation and welcome activities and provides additional support services while international students are enrolled at CMU.
Ross marked World Trade Week by presenting the awards. “There’s no better way to kick off World Trade Week than to honor these companies who have increased exports while creating jobs for communities across the United States.
In 2017, the United States exported more than $2 trillion worth of goods and services. In 2016, nearly 11 million jobs were supported by exports.
