Public comments sought on land trust accreditation

A public comment period is underway as part of an accreditation renewal process for the Colorado West Land Trust based in Grand Junction.

The trust, a collaboration of the Mesa Land Trust and Black Canyon Regional Land Trust, announced that both member organizations have applied to renew their accreditations with the Land Trust Accreditation Commission.

The commission reviews applicant programs and policies to ensure applicants meet national quality standards for land conversation.

As part of that process, the commission accepts written and signed comments on pending applications. Comments should relate to how applicants comply with national standards, including technical and ethical operations.

Comments on the Colorado West Land Trust application should be submitted by Sept. 14.

Comments may be mailed to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission at 36 Phila St., Suite 2, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or faxed to (518) 587-3183. Additional information on the accreditation program and submitting comments is available online at www.landtrustaccreditation.org.

The Colorado West Land Trust works to protect and enhance agricultural and scenic lands and wildlife habitat in Mesa County and five other Western Colorado counties. The trust has conserved a total of more than 123,000 acres in the six counties. For additional information about the trust, log on to the website located at https://cowestlandtrust.org.
