State and federal government officials will join attendees from across Western Colorado in an annual fall conference hosted by Club 20 in Grand Junction.

The conference is set for Sept. 20 and 21 at Colorado Mesa University Center and other venues.

The conference offers Club 20 members and others a chance to meet with officials to discuss a variety of issues facing the region.

“Now, more than ever before, it is imperative to engage with our elected officials so we have a voice in shaping the landscape of Western Colorado, both literally and figuratively,” said  Christian Reece, executive director of Club 20.

“The issues we are facing as a region, a state and a nation have far-reaching implications, and it is vital that our leaders, both locally and in our nation’s capital, be strong advocates on behalf of the needs of our communities,” Reece added.

In addition to meetings and a leadership lunch, activities on Sept. 20 will include the annual steak fry at the Cross Orchards Living History Museum, located at  3073 F Road.

The conference will continue Sept. 21 at CMU with a series of meetings and lunch and keynote lunch discussion on pharmaceutical rebate reform.

The conference will feature Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser.

Other state officials expected to participate in the conference will include Michael Conway, commissioner of insurance; Dan Gibbs, director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources; Shoshana Lew, director of the Colorado Department of Transportation; and Dan Prenzlow, director of Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner and U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, both Republicans from Colorado, also are expected to attend, as is Jamie Connell, state director of the Bureau of Land Management.
