County completes Highway 6 improvements in Clifton

Mesa County joined community members, state partners and the construction team this month to celebrate the completion of the US 6 Clifton Improvements Project, the county said in a news release.

The corridor between First and Fifth streets is now designed to move traffic more efficiently while creating safer conditions, the news release said. The improvements include modern roundabouts at each end of the corridor, upgraded pedestrian connections and design changes that slow traffic and reduce conflict points. These upgrades are intended to improve traffic flow while lowering the risk of serious crashes, especially at busy intersections.

“This project represents more than just pavement and roundabouts,” Mesa County Commissioner JJ Fletcher said. “It reflects years of working hand in hand to identify needs, plan improvements and invest in infrastructure that makes our community safer and more accessible.”

Mesa County also completed adjacent roadway improvements on 32 1/2 Road to help maintain access during construction and improve connectivity for local drivers. That work helped reduce disruptions for residents and businesses while the project was ongoing and continues to support travel options today, the news release said.

County leaders emphasized the long-term benefits for the community as the improved corridor supports local businesses, enhances access to nearby neighborhoods and creates a safer, more welcoming gateway into Clifton, the news release said.

“With the completion of this project, what was once a busy and sometimes congested corridor has been transformed,” Fletcher said. “These improvements will serve Clifton for decades to come.”
