The Grand Junction Regional Airport opened its new, covered-parking facilities on Sept. 1 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The enhancement includes 100 standard-parking spaces and eight accessible spaces that are available to people with disabilities.

For added convenience, six of the standard spaces and one of the accessible spaces are equipped with electric-vehicle chargers. A key feature of the project is the installation of a 668-kilowatt rooftop solar array that is expected to generate enough electricity to offset the passenger terminal.

“The new covered parking represents the type of forward-thinking investment our community expects,” Grand Junction Regional Airport Board Chair Linde Marshall said. “The wide-ranging benefits of this project – improving the guest experience, greater accessibility, renewable-energy generation and EV-charging infrastructure – demonstrate the airport’s commitment to serving the needs of today’s travelers while preparing for tomorrow.”

The project finished on time and under the $7.4 million project budget, the airport said in a news release. The project was funded with State Infrastructure Bank loan proceeds, and a significant portion of the investment qualifies for the Section 48E Clean Energy Investment Tax Credit.

The covered parking sits within the main public-parking lot at the airport. After entering the main lot, guests can access the standard spaces from the south side of the parking lot. The accessible spaces can be accessed by staying on the north side of the parking lot after entering, as they sit adjacent to the existing, uncovered accessible spaces in front of the terminal.

The project is part of the airport’s broader efforts to modernize facilities, enhance guest experience and prepare for continued growth in passenger traffic throughout western Colorado and eastern Utah, the news release said.

The Grand Junction Regional Airport is a user-fee-funded airport that operates in a self-sustaining manner and is not taxpayer funded. The airport served a record 639,000 commercial passengers in 2025 and is on pace to break that record in 2026.
