Accountants earn forensic certification

Lynn Kleager and Greg Keller, both accountants and principals with Dalby, Wendland & Co. have earned certification in financial forensics from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Keller also earned certification in business valuation services.

Forensic accounting services include collecting, analyzing and evaluating evidence as well as interpreting and communicating findings in a courtroom, boardroom or other legal or administrative venue.

Kleager, a principal in the Glenwood Springs office of Dalby, Wendland & Co., has more than 35 years of experience in taxes and accounting. He said his firm has experienced increased demand for financial forensics and business valuation services. “When someone is selling a business or going through a divorce, the attorney will hire us to come in and try to find the assets. …. Sometimes, we are called as an expert witness to assess how much money a business really has.”

Keller, also a principal in the Glenwood Springs office, has more than 25 years of experience in taxes and accounting. Keller also said he’s seen a shift in business practices related to forensic accounting. “Businesses are doing more on the up front end to prevent fraud than they have in the past. Up until a few years ago, many companies really weren’t paying attention to it at all.
