Administrative Professionals Day event planned

Sharon Raggio

Registration is under way for an annual Administrative Professionals Day that’s part celebration and part education.

The Book Cliff Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) will host an April 25 event that includes a vendor expo, luncheon and workshop. The event is open to the public.

The event is set for 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 743 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction. Admission to the luncheon, keynote address and workshop is $70 for IAAP members, $75 for others. Admission to just the luncheon and keynote address is $45. Sharon Raggio — chief executive officer of Colorado West, a regional mental health services provider based in Grand Junction — will deliver the keynote address as well as lead a workshop on applying the principles of positive psychology to the workplace.

The IAAP, which launched Administrative Professionals Day in 1952, is one of the largest organizations of its kind with more than 600 chapters and a total of 40,000 members and affiliates worldwide. The Book Cliff Chapter has 33 members.

Karen Loughman, president of the chapter, said Administrative Professionals Day offers a way in which to recognize administrative professionals as well as offer them assistance to do their jobs even better.

Keeping positive and resolving conflicts have become increasingly important to administrative professionals as they’ve taken on more duties in the aftermath of a recession and slow recovery, Loughman said.
