Applicants sought to fill school board vacancy

Applications will be accepted through 4 p.m. March 23 to fill a vacancy on the Mesa County School District 51 board.

The District C seat on the school board was vacated following the resignation of John Williams. Williams resigned before a final round of interviews for an open position as the district general counsel.

To apply for the vacant seat, interested candidates must send a resume and cover letter to Bridget Story, 2115 Grand Ave., Grand Junction, CO 81501.

Interested applicants must be registered to vote within District 51  boundaries for at least a year and reside in District C, located between 26 1/2 and 29 roads in central and northern Grand Junction. A detailed map is available online at d51schools.org/about_us/board_of_education/members.

School board members plan to interview applicants April 8 and 9. The person they appoint will serve on the board until the next school board election in November 2021. The appointee can choose to run in the 2021 election or not.

Board duties include engaging with stakeholders, approving calendars and budgets, creating community partnerships, hearing updates about and making suggestions for district programs, and ensuring the district meets key objectives and benchmarks.
