Applications sought for food and shelter funding

Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. Feb. 26 for funding for emergency food and shelter programs in Mesa County.

The county was awarded nearly $58,000 from the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program

United Way of Mesa County serves as the award administrator and is accepting applications for distributing the funding for local programs.

To be eligible to receive funding through the program, organizations must be nonprofit or government units located in Mesa County, meet the criteria for receiving federal funds, have an established accounting system, practice nondiscrimination, demonstrate the ability to administer emergency food or shelter programs and have a volunteer board of directors.

A local volunteer board will determine the distribution of funds allocated in Mesa County.
