Applications will be accepted until March 9 for the latest round of grants distributed by the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District.
The district distributes federal mineral leasing funds to public entities in Mesa County to support infrastructure, construction and public service projects. Grants are available under programs to support large-scale public works and capital projects as well as mini grants of up to $50,000 for smaller projects.
The grant evaluation process takes into account such criteria as the ability to address the effects of energy extraction, long-term value and sustainability. Grant awards will be announced as soon as April 11.
The district has about $439,000 available for the two grant cycles in 2018. The district also has invested $350,000, the maximum allowed under state law, into a newly created permanent fund for community projects.
Since it was established in 2011, the Mesa County Federal Mineral Lease District has awarded more than $7.9 million to public entities in the county.
